Well, this about sums it up: (1) If we want change, we need to let our elected officials know through letters and peaceful demonstrations. (2) Life is much more pleasant when we get along. We don't have to agree. Remember the old adage: "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it." (3) It's time we began electing the common man to represent us. Only he or she can understand our needs.
Let me add one more item to the list: Democracy works best when we compromise. Otherwise, we have no more than hard heads butting against one another without accomplishing anything. Not even identical twins agree on everything, so how can we expect hundreds, thousands, and millions of people to agree? We can't. We need to rediscover the practice of compromise.
