Jack’s Giving to Others
Jack gave generously of both his service and donations to others. He worked with Direction Sports to help less fortunate youth to find their way through sports. He supported programs for the learning and physically disabled. He was a leader of the No Greater Love program for recovering servicemen at the Tripler Army Medical Center. He supported other causes, as well.

He continued to give even after he passed away. In 1988, Jack and Marie set up a fund through the Hawaii Community Foundation to benefit 12 charities, which they selected. Their initial gift was $50,000; it grew to $750,000 by the time of Jack's death in January 1998. Upon Marie's death in October 2005, the fund received the balance of the couple's estate, valued at more than $40 million. The Jack and Marie Lord Fund generates an estimated $1.6 million to $2 million each year, all of which goes to benefit the people of Hawai’i.

The following 12 charities receive funding each year from the Jack and Marie Lord Fund: Hospice Hawaii, the St. Francis Hospice Care Center, the Salvation Army's Hawaii Division, Eye of the Pacific Guide Dogs Inc., The Association for Retarded Citizens in Hawaii, the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, the Variety Club of Honolulu, the Hawaiian Humane Society, United Service Organizations, the Honolulu Academy of Arts, Hawaii Public Television, and the Hawaii Lions Eye Foundation.
