Well, the holidays are over. The Christmas decorations are back in their storage containers. C is back at work. I'm not sure whether he was glad to go back; he overslept this morning and had to make a mad dash out the door.
As for me, I'm ready to ride the rails. So what if it's cold. So what if snow is on the ground where I would like to go. Give me a roomette and a camera that works (Yes, I need to buy a new one), and I'll be as happy as a clam (Are clams really happy?).
I think I'll fly up to Chicago and catch the California Zephyr across the midsection of the country (really much prettier in summertime, when the crops and fields are green) to Colorado. I'll get off in Denver to do some exploring, then get back on the train a few days later and ride through the Rocky Mountains to Glenwood Springs. I'll poke around there for a few days, then ride across Utah and Nevada to California, where I'll enjoy seeing the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the redwood forests before finally disembarking in Emeryville, across from the bay from San Francisco.
I'll probably have had my fill of snow at that point, so I'll board a ship and spend sixteen days on a round-trip cruise around the Hawaiian Islands. I just might get off in Honolulu; pay my respects at Pearl Harbor, Punchbowl, and Kahala Beach; then fly back to the mainland and (somehow or another) make myself return to "real life".
Hey! A girl can dream, can't she? Better yet, she can write about it.
